Guidelines and Cost

First English Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten has enjoyed great success in the past years with our extended day program. We hope to offer this in the 2021-22 school year. The children enjoy the mixed age groups and the extra time to play with friends. They often refer to it as “lunch bunch”. Preschoolers and Kindergarteners will have time to eat, play outdoors, play indoors, read, and enjoy other activities. While both groups may enjoy outdoor time together, the preschoolers work and play in one room and the kindergarteners do so in their regular room.

Extended day begins at 12:00 p.m. and pick up time is by 2:15 for preschool and by 2:20 for kindergarteners. This is offered Monday through Thursday.

You may sign up in one of the following ways:

1. Per semester: For this the cost is $24/day for kindergarten and $22/day for preschool. There are discounts available in addition for signing up for two siblings and for multiple days.

2. Per day: For a one time sign up, the cost is $26 for kindergarten and $24 for preschool. We request notice and registration a day ahead. If you need to sign up in an “emergency situation”, please call the office to be sure space is available.

The sibling discount is applied to the younger sibling’s registration and both children must be registered at the time the discount is given.

The Kindergarten children here who have signed up for full day Kindergarten or who have chosen 1 or two afternoons to stay will have time to play, to complete projects from the morning, and often extend learning from the morning through art, science, games, and other hands on activities. The regular classroom teachers, Miss Kathy and Miss Tracy work with and teach the kindergarteners in the afternoon.

The preschoolers will have time to play and be offered each day a learning experience in art, music, games, science, movement, language, or fine motor. Two of our regular staff will work and play with the lunch bunch group Monday through Thursday. Please note that staff may change days and other staff may fill in, as well.

It is great to see the happy faces eating and playing together. It is also fun and exciting to be with children from other classes. However, for some young children the longer day may be too tiring or overwhelming. If this occurs, the teacher will discuss this with you and may ask you to discontinue lunch bunch until your child is more ready. In these cases, unused extended day tuition is refunded.

Lunch: Please pack a healthy lunch with a drink and any necessary utensils for your child.

Weather Policy for Extended Day: We will follow local school closings in the event of bad weather. If it begins to snow during the day, please feel free to call the office at 410-235-5887 to inquire about early closing.

Dismissal: Children will be dismissed from the lobby at 2:15 (Kindergarten is 2:20.) Please be sure that you check out with a teacher if you come early and if anyone other than yourself is picking up, a note must be provided. Please be prompt. The late fee is $10.
